exoskeletions

This is a hermit-crab-shell outfit. It's one of those outfits that would've been perfect for me a year ago, but now just feels like ... a too small hermit crab shell. Something about these girly vintage silhouettes have been feeling a bit too twee lately. I should've worn this outfit with my red hair just because I always loved how the green of this dress popped against ginger hair. Oh well! Maybe I'll do a remix of this outfit when I'm back on the ginger train.

Do you guys ever feel like what you're wearing is like a too-small exoskeleton? Sometimes I think that humans forget that they grow and change. Some animals are constantly reminded of their need for a larger skin to fit into. We humans, on the other hand, don't have that physical reminder. I like when nature shows me something about myself and my own life through the example of wildlife and the great outdoors.

Here are a couple other ways I've style this dress:

I love the contrast between the classic silhouette of the dress and the craziness of your hair!

I've always loved that dress, and with the shirt and your new hair it's just even more awesome. You might be growing out of those silhouettes, but they still look great on you.

And I'm JUST gonna have to dye my hair, aren't I? Between Andrea (Blonde Bedhead) and you the temptation is too much! Who knows, I'll probably chicken out. Do you have any tips for keeping it in good, moisturized condition after bleaching/dyeing?

@lyri

I didn't bleach it completely platinum, just a lighter red, kind of strawberry blonde because I didn't want to destroy my hair. It is definitely not as healthy as it was before, but I'm doing deep conditioning sessions to keep it from getting too dry as well as not washing it very often.

I love the blouse under your dress! And I know exactly what you mean. I feel that way about a lot of my clothes, which is one of the reasons why I buy new things constantly. My style changes so fast that I feel like I'm constantly outgrowing things.

From what you've posted about not being satisfied with your wardrobe lately, I think you're ready and confident enough to let your inner rocker come out.

love your blouse under the dress, such a cute idea! I totally know what you mean though about changing styles, I love donating a bunch and then getting a bunch of new things thrifting as my tastes change.

That sage dress is so pretty! I like all the different ways you remixed it. It would have looked very good with the ginger colored hair though.

You're totally right... we don't outgrow exoskeletons but we outgrow styles. It's been cool to watch yours evolve.

That's exactly how I felt this morning, and felt uncomfortable all day. I'm growing; I'm in a different place than a year ago.

Funny how our appearances are the last thing we change.

PS.
Love the last outfit. The white shoes make my heart pitter-patter.

So I finally made my butt over here, why did it take so long? :P

I can really relate to this post. I have been trying to purge my wardrobe lately, but I feel wrong about it. I want to get rid of things that I don't really want to wear anymore, but it is hard when there is nothing wrong with it and it looks good on me :P

I still think this looks really good. My favorite look has to be the dress with the jeans, really cute!

I like the different ways you styled the dress- more earthy and active with the leggings and boots..I also think it is funny that when you pull your hair back, the second color is hidden...as if you have two completely different hair things going on independently.

I really love that dress - the silhouette is so pretty and adorable. It's definitely something I'd wear in an instant. I love that cute polka dot top with it. Very quirky and awesome!

I know exactly what you mean! My biggest thing is music. I'll be doing something and I'll listen to a specific song. Then later, when I'm doing the same thing, I'll listen to that same song and and find - that it just doesn't move me like it used to. I think it's a rather odd feeling for everyone, until we are able to move on and realize that we've grown. Things have changed and that's ok. We can have just as much fun, and enjoy life just as much now as we did then. <3
