When life gives you lemons, make something else entirely

Dress (worn as top): Delightful Dozen swap
Vintage leather skirt: Gift from Jessy of Mascara or Motoroil
Belt: J.Crew sale ($4.99)
Hi, it's Julie! A few people have asked me recently- in real life and in the blogworld- what the DD does when we receive an item that doesn't fit correctly. It's understandable, with 12 different girls from across the US, something is bound to just not work, and in that instance, there are a few options: pin it, belt it, or make it a top! We swap a lot of dresses, and I think dresses are one of the most easily manipulated items in your closet. You can change the silhouette so easily with just a few tweaks here and there.

When I saw how Mel and Indiana both styled this dress, I loved it and wanted to give it a try. But when I received it...it just didn't look as awesome on me as it did on those two lovely ladies. So rather then send it on it's way, I slipped on this bright teal skirt and made the dress a top, problem solved!
How Mel and Indiana both styled the same dress:

Such a beautiful way to transform the dress into a top, the teal hue is such a pretty color on you. And those fringe heels are like the cherry on top.

I love that mint skirt! I like how you all remixed the dress but I am really liking it with the mint skirt because it makes it look even more retro than it already does!

Julie, I stopped in to check out your post on this blog. Wow, did not know it was a dress! The skirt color reminds me of the southwestern colors I have been looking for in the thrifts. Drop in sometime. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo
