Reader Spotlight: Better in Sepia

Name: Ana of Better in Sepia

What: J. Crew mustard yellow skirt

Remixing tip: When remixing an item, don't limit yourself in the way you think about the piece. You can think of it in terms of color, silhouette or texture and pattern. When you think about color, there's so many options! You can go monochrome, pair it with lighter colors, darker colors, or find complementary colors on a color wheel. You can think of the item's shape, and add something with a similar or contrasting shape - like a sleek shirt or something with structured sleeves. Pattern and texture can make a huge difference too - pairing an item with a solid piece will look very different than if you pair it with a patterned or textured piece. Remixing is a constant design challenge, and should be fun!

I love the color of this skirt! And the way you've styled them with the different colored tights :) Great feature.

PIECE OF CAKE. PEACE OF MIND.

This is good advice and, with a piece as pretty as this skirt, valuable. As the two photos show, the same item can look dramatically different depending on what it's paired with. I love creativity in fashion and this encourages it. Nice blog, btw!
